Welcome, Vision & Values

Welcome, Vision & Values

On behalf of the children, staff and Trustees, I should like to welcome you to The Shared Learning Trust. We are a family of schools, sharing our practice and beliefs to produce young people who achieve more that than they ever thought possible.

The Shared Learning Trust currently comprises a lower school, two primary schools and two secondary schools with a sixth form. As two of our schools have nursery provision too, we are able to offer high quality education to pupils aged 2 to 18.

At The Shared Learning Trust, we provide exceptional opportunities for all to be aspirational and develop a passion and excitement for learning! Being geographically close, our staff work in partnership to ensure that excellent practice is achieved and shared. We will ensure our pupils and adults cultivate a strong self-belief so that they can flourish and develop into successful, well-rounded, self-respecting people.

The recent effects of the pandemic have highlighted the benefits of being in our Trust. Working collaboratively, we have been able to offer quick and effective advice and support to our academy leaders and staff over the past year.

We are proud of the diverse community across our Trust, and we celebrate the wealth of opportunities this brings for learning about a range of different cultures, heritages, backgrounds and experiences. We are entirely committed to challenging all types of discrimination and we actively promote equality and diversity across our Trust at all levels. We are delighted to have signed the Race at Work Charter https://www.bitc.org.uk/race-at-work-charter-signatories/ and central leaders are supporting each academy to attain the Race and Conscious Equality Charter Mark as recognition of the priority we give to this area.

Vision and Values

The Shared Learning Trust is a stand-alone multi-academy trust, which runs a family of five schools currently based in Luton and Bedfordshire:

Our commitment to our vision can be demonstrated by our behaviours:

Strive

We will:

  • provide a caring, nurturing environment where children and young adults feel happy, healthy and supported. Our academies will be places of safety, enabling pupils to develop strong ambition and be the best that they can be.
  • continue to work together to share innovative practice and to provide a wealth of opportunities for all pupils and staff
  • have a Cross-Trust focus on high achievement and standards, where children are supported to meet ambitious targets.
  • focus on the development of all of our staff through quality recruitment and retention, with excellent opportunities for clear and dynamic career progression.

Achieve

We will:

  • aspire to provide exceptional lessons and learning opportunities, incorporating effective use of new technologies, enabling our learners to be successful and innovative.
  • share strong Trust approaches to our key issues, for example; teaching, assessment, attendance and curriculum development.
  • offer an interesting yet challenging curriculum in each of our academies.
  • by our all-through education, guarantee excellent 2-19 provision, with clear progression routes for all.
  • continue to expect good behaviour and conduct at all times, allowing all to make progress and achieve excellence.
  • place emphasis on collaboration with partners outside of our Trust to maximise opportunities for all in our Trust.

Believe

We will:

  • enable all of our learners to develop and flourish, through close working and regular communication with our families and local community,.
  • care for our families beyond the school day, supporting the development of high self-esteem and belief.
  • ensure that every child in our Trust reaches their full potential by providing exciting opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom.
  • promote can-do attitudes across the Trust that develop belief and high expectation.

In order to achieve this, we expect families to honour our home / academy agreements:

Children and young adults are expected to:

  • Come to school every day, be punctual and well prepared for lessons
  • Be willing to work hard
  • Take responsibility for their learning and strive to do their best
  • Respect others and their environment
  • Take pride in all they achieve

Parents/Carers are expected to:

  • Encourage and support their child and the school by taking an active role in their education
  • Encourage children to strive to do their best and celebrate success
  • Ensure punctuality and good attendance
  • Provide their child with the appropriate equipment
  • Share the school’s expectations and promote the importance of learning
  • Communicate with school to develop a strong partnership

THE SHARED LEARNING TRUST CURRICULUM VISION

Our curricula are bespoke to individual academies, but are underpinned by key, consistent features defined as a trust:

  • pupils are introduced to the best that has been thought and said as their entitlement, which creates a foundation for widening horizons and opportunities to think bigger to build the skills to achieve the very best they can.
  • pupils are given the opportunity to explore and develop their curiosity, an appreciation of human creativity and achievement and to develop a life-long love of learning
  • pupils are prepared to accept nuance and consider, critically, and compassionately the information they consume
  • our pupils develop their knowledge and skills through deliberate practice and application in a variety of contexts
  • our teachers use their expertise to communicate knowledge, induct pupils into subject disciplines and to facilitate pupils’ own discovery and interests
  • our staff work together to implement and draw upon ambitious, intelligent, cross-curricular and cross-phase links
  • our curricula celebrate the diverse backgrounds of the pupils in our care and the community we serve, and incorporate a strong anti-racist and inclusive perspective. Pressing current issues such as climate change, are addressed through responsive implementation.
